The Cottage: Sleeps 2 - 4 people
Knockshannoch Lodge is our much loved family holiday home - it has been renovated and decorated by us and reflects our own taste, it is not a place for the lover of clean lines and huge TV's or indeed for minimalists, our home is an eclectic mix of antique and hand-painted upcycled furniture, the interior retains vintage stained glass windows and we display interesting 'bits and bobs' we have gathered over the years. It is a peaceful retreat, with dark skies for star gazing, its a quiet, romantic and characterful cottage.
Our unusual curved entrance hall gives access to all rooms
Kitchen/Dining/Breakfast room - We have a rustic country style kitchen, this is a good sized room with two windows, one looking out to the glen and one to the bird feeding table where the red squirrels hang out, there is a solid oak floor and a large woodburner. Facilities include a standard size dishwasher, 800w microwave, ceramic hob and electric fan assisted double oven with grill, an under counter fridge, electric slow cooker, washing machine, old fashioned pulley dryer over woodburning stove, kitchen table and chairs, additional bench seat, belfast sink, kettle, digital radio, the kitchen is fully equipped for self catering.
Traditional 'Scottish style' lounge, with 3 seater chesterfield leather sofa, chesterfield wing back and club chair, an efficient woodburner, two sideboads with a good selection of DVD's, Blu Rays, Board Games, Jigsaws and a Nintendo Wii U games console and games .There are books galore throughout the cottage, some local walking guides and information on local activities. Unlimited wifi - the service is fine for internet access but is not super fast. There is a surround sound music/home theatre system. Flat screen TV, DVD/CD and Blu Ray Player.
Main bedroom - An antique 4-post french double bed (no canopy - see pics), arts and crafts style single wardobe and dressing table, book case, trunk (containing blankets, hairdryer), window out to driveway, reading lamps and bedside tables/storage.
Second bedroom, bunk beds 3' wide, this is a small room with a small unit for clothes storage, there is a lovely view out to the glen and the river, some books and toys for children
Bathroom with antique Victorian roll top bath with electric shower overhead, washbasin, wc, heated towel rail and electric fan heater, small storage cupboard
Storage room, this is where you can store your boots and coats, there is an equipped first aid cupboard and storage area, ironing board, etc.
Electricity: we charge for usage at cost, part of the cottage is heated by electric storage heater that run on a low tarriff, there are therefore two meters, meter readings are taken at the beginning and the end of your stay and you are welcome to check these. We do supply logs and coal, kindling and firelighters, having stayed in many cottages over the years as a family we find buying logs and fuel when on holiday quite irksome, and running round searching for a bag of over priced wet logs to buy isn't the best way to end a day out!
We supply linen and cotton bedding, towels, (please bring your own towels for beach use or dogs paws) and tea towels.
Full housekeeping on change-over day.
Up to two well behaved dogs welcome - we do not charge extra for dogs but please read our rules for dogs at the bottom of the website.
This is a detached cottage on a quiet lane, there is a garden to the rear and side of the property and seating to the front. The garden is not secure and has steep steps and a bank that drops to a small stream, it is therefore not suitable for very small children and older children would need to be supervised
Walking distance to local child and dog friendly pub (One mile)
Garage, the garage is accessible to use the freezer and to store your sports equipment
Gravel driveway with ample parking for two cars
Steep steps in two areas give access to the high garden at the rear of the property, here there is a seating area with wooden garden table and chairs and a lovely view of Mount Blair and across and around the glen. There is a washing line here.
Front garden – this is a work in progress, but is a very pleasant place to sit, especially in the evening after a days walking, there is a graveled seating area with views across the glen, this is where you will catch the evening sun.
We regret the cottage does not have suitable access for wheelchair users
